Interior architect Aurélie Penneman knows Art Deco inside out and is precisely why she dares to play with it. For the style's centenary, she reimagined a part of our showroom, demonstrating how relevant Art Deco is today. The space feels familiar, yet surprisingly contemporary. Her approach shows how, through unexpected combinations and subtle shifts in profiles, a familiar style can be given a new, contemporary layer. Aurélie drew inspiration from Belgian heritage such as the Palais Stoclet, Villa Empain and the Van Buuren Museum, but gave each element a new twist. A skirting board used upside down, a cornice appearing as a frame, or a wall panel becoming a star-shaped sculpture. Her approach doesn't have to be strict. It offers room for experiment.
