Adhesives and Tools: Everything You Need for a Professional Finish
Using the correct adhesives and tools is essential for achieving a flawless installation of decorative mouldings. At Orac, we make the process simple by offering three main types of adhesive that provide reliable bonding and a smooth, long-lasting finish. Most of our products can be installed using moulding adhesive alone, making them effectively a no nails glue, although some larger pieces such as oversized cornice or ceiling roses may also recommend nails in combination with adhesive.
To guarantee the best results, we always recommend using Orac moulding glue. Our range includes specialist solutions for walls, ceilings, joints and finishing. We also offer the essential tools you’ll need, including three different mitre box options. Selecting the correct mitre box for your product depth and width ensures neat, accurate cuts for both 45 and 90 degree angles and makes installation significantly easier.
What are the types of adhesive I should use?
Choosing the right types of adhesive is crucial for ensuring a strong, long-term bond. In the UK, we always recommend starting with FDP700 DecoFix Power, a high-performance waterproof glue ideal for installing mouldings on walls or ceilings. This MS polymer adhesive works in all environments, including kitchens, bathrooms and newly plastered spaces. It is the best option for 3D wall panels, heavy decorative elements, and areas where humidity or difficult conditions are a concern. Excess can be removed with a mild soap solution, and the surface is paintable after 24 hours.
We also offer FDP500 DecoFix Pro, a water-based acrylic moulding adhesive suitable for dry, stable surfaces such as joinery or walls plastered for more than six months. Apply only to clean, dry, dust-free and frost-free surfaces. Excess can be wiped away with a damp sponge or cloth before it hardens. It is also paintable after 24 hours. If you are unsure about your surface or environment, choose FDP700 DecoFix Power for complete peace of mind.
To complete the installation, use FX400 DecoFix Ultra alongside one of the adhesives above. This is a joint adhesive designed to prevent cracks and ensure perfectly seamless joins between lengths. It bonds profiles securely, allowing you to create a continuous look once painted. Press mouldings together until a fine glue line appears, remove excess with a painter’s knife and soap solution, and finish with FL300 DecoFiller if needed.
DecoFiller FL300 is a lightweight, shrink-proof finishing filler used after installation to fill small gaps, cracks or irregularities. It can be used in humid areas when finished with water-resistant paint. It dries quickly, is ready to repaint in just 15 minutes, and delivers a smooth, professional finish.
How much adhesive should I order?
To make ordering simple, we provide an automatic adhesive pop-up during checkout. Once you add your products to the basket, the system will recommend the correct wall panel adhesive, skirting board adhesive, or cornice adhesive based on the type of product, the environment and the quantities selected.
If you prefer, you can also use our glue calculator to determine exactly how much you’ll need before placing your order. And of course, our customer service team is always happy to offer advice personalised to your project.
